Getting Through a Family Vacation With Kids: Helpful Tips!

In exactly four days, our family is embarking on our first big adventure as a foursome – a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. We are fortunate enough to join the entire family (20 people!) to celebrate Manfriend’s mom’s 70th birthday. I can’t wait to share photos and a recap of our experience.

Kara’s guest post below on successfully traveling with children could not have come at a better time. Kara has been on every cruise and adventurous getaway you could imagine. I’m grateful to have her tips below, and will certainly keep them in mind as we pack, fly across the country and cruise on the ship! Thanks for your insight, Kara!

Today, We’re Traveling to Bulgaria

A friend of mine from USC has spent the last few years traveling the globe and giving back as a Peace Corps Volunteer. 2.5 of those years were spent in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria was never on my list of places to visit until I started following Amy’s blog. Below are images she took of the concrete graffiti walls in the capital city providing a glimpse into the local culture and its communist history.

Taking a Break at a Local Church in Salvador, Brazil

I’m coming up on my 1 year anniversary of my trip to Salvador, Brazil. I stumbled upon this short video clip as I looked back on all of my photos from my trip.

This was on the tail end of my journey. My travel bud Lydia (who I met on the trip) and I were just getting back from a walk and decided to stop inside this church as they prepared for their service.

It was such a beautiful way to end our day.

I Won a Social Media Travel Contest in Aruba

Aruba Marriott I Won a Social Media Travel Contest in Aruba

Aruba Marriott

In 2012 I will be there – at the Aruba Marriott Resort .

Thanks in part to a social media contest I entered on Twitter.

Here’s what happened. In one of the multiple travel blogs I follow, I read that @arubamarriott was hosting a contest for 2 free nights at their property in Aruba.

All you had to do was answer their True/False questions with the hashtag #ALOE.

First Aruba Contest Tweet I Won a Social Media Travel Contest in ArubaExcitedly, I answered my first question, set an alert to receive direct texts to my phone, and answered questions as I knew the answers.

I did all of this never dreaming I’d win. I just appreciate social media contests and am especially fascinated my tourism marketing.

Last Monday morning I awoke to an absolutely surreal text.

Aruba Contest Winner Tweet I Won a Social Media Travel Contest in ArubaI always imagined that if I won a really cool contest, I’d behave like a contestant on the Price is Right and act like a total lunatic.

Instead, I sat there quietly, reread the next 10 times and mouthed “OMG”. There was no one around.

Many, many thanks to the team at Aruba Marriott for this incredible opportunity!

Now the fun part – actually planning the trip there!

Do you have any tips or recommendations for traveling to Aruba?
